Auroara has been key in supporting our Metis folks in BC. Through the creation of safe spaces, the use of creative expression, and integrating aspects of two-eyed seeing, Auroara creates beautiful safe spaces for folks to explore their inner workings, creative expression, and identity formation, all through a culturally grounded Metis lens. She was able to support many of our 100+ Metis participants through mental health and wellness. We will continue working with Auroara to support our Metis community members. Auroara Leigh led many Métis individuals through a "Freeing Your Voice through Self Expression" workshop at our 2nd Métis Mental Health & Wellness Gathering. Auroara’s Lateral Kindness training is one of the most thoughtful and impactful professional development experiences I have attended. The session was intentionally designed to build understanding from the ground up, beginning with the realities of trauma and the nervous system before guiding participants into the essential work of self-awareness, regulation, and creating safety for others.
What stood out most was Auroara’s emphasis that supporting others begins with understanding ourselves. The practical grounding techniques, discussions around recognizing our own triggers, and strategies for maintaining healthy boundaries were immediately applicable to both professional and personal relationships. The training reinforced that compassion is most effective when it is paired with presence, consent, and respect for each person’s autonomy.
I also deeply appreciated the integration of cultural competency and the acknowledgement that people experience the world through diverse histories, identities, and ways of knowing. This perspective added meaningful depth and ensured the training was inclusive, respectful, and relevant across communities.
